Storage Ring Beam Measurement & Feedback

Overview

In a particle accelerator facility the beam originates from an electron gun or ion source and travels through a linear accelerator, transport lines, a booster or a storage ring before a stable beam is delivered to the experimental beamlines. The beam measurement system runs through the entire accelerator chain and is a key foundation for machine commissioning, machine protection, orbit correction, fast feedback and stable beam delivery to the experimental endstations.

Beam measurement for storage rings serves closed-orbit correction, fast orbit feedback, bunch-by-bunch transverse feedback, injection commissioning and long-term stable operation, and is a core diagnostics element of low-emittance synchrotron radiation light sources. A typical system is built around BPM/DBPM processors, combining low-noise RF front ends, high-speed ADCs, pilot-tone compensation, digital down-conversion, multi-rate data output and optical-fiber fast feedback links to acquire TBT, FA and SA data at different rates.

Drawing on our research into high-precision, low-latency digital beam position measurement technology, we have further mastered asymmetric dual pilot-tone compensation, low-noise analog conditioning, low-jitter sampling clocks and multi-rate digital processing. Built on our digital beam position monitor processor product, we have established volume-production engineering capability and can support customized design for different application scenarios.
